KUCHING: It was a gathering of unity and cooperation during a joint ‘Gawai-Hari Raya Aidilfitri’ get-together at the Santubong police station on Friday evening.

According to station’s officer-in-charge Sub-Insp Sulaiman Meng, the event was more than just about festivities – it was also meant to foster closer ties between the men-in-blue and members of the local community.

“Police and community coming together during festive occasions is truly a wonderful sight.

“I hope that such spirit of cooperation and togetherness would remain strong and intact,” he said in his opening remarks.

Meanwhile, Santubong police station deputy officer-in-charge Sgt Maj Che Othman Awi said the joint gathering was for everyone to come and celebrate the occasions together under one roof.

“It is really not possible to go to the each of the 32 police personnel’s open houses. Thus, we’re hosting this joint celebration to bring the public closer to police, as well as to be together as one family and share the celebration.

“Apart from the villagers and those from surrounding areas, our guests include local community leaders, representatives from major corporate bodies like Mydin, and also members of Kita Anak Santubong Association,” he said.

Kuching District deputy police chief Supt Ismail Mahmood and Penghulu Pui Sin Ming were also present at the gathering, which also held lucky draw and open karaoke competition.
