KINABATANGAN: Two students aged 16 and 17 were arrested by police on July 6 for allegedly gangraping their 17-year-old classmate in April this year.

According to district chief police, Superintendent A. Sahak Rahmat, the teenage girl lodged a police report on July 6 after her explicit photo went viral on social media.

The photo was believed to have been taken by one of the suspects during the incident which happened at around 9am on April 1 at an abandoned wooden hut behind their school.

According to the victim, she and her friends were decorating their classroom when she was called by both suspects.

The suspects had brought her to a place behind the school by convincing her that there was something they wanted to discuss.

Upon reaching the hut, one of the suspects forced the victim inside while another locked the door from the inside.

The victim was threatened and forced to undress before both suspects took turns raping her.

After the incident, the victim did not dare tell her family and teacher for fear of being harmed by both suspects.

However, on July 5, the explicit photo that had gone viral reached the attention of the school authority. Both suspects and the victim were called by their disciplinary teacher who then lodged a police report.

The victim was brought to the Kinabatangan Hospital for a check-up and referred to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for further screening.

The case will be investigated under Section 375B/574 Act of Penal Code which carries a jail term of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years.
