KGS Hari Raya tourney attracts 190 golfers

KUCHING: The response to the KGS Hari Raya Golf and Adilfitri Open House at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) in Petra Jaya on Saturday was overwhelming, with 190 participants vying for top honours in the one-day affair.

This event is one of the three festive tournaments in the annual KGS golf calendar, with Chap Goh Mei Special to celebrate the Chinese New Year and Gawai Golf and Open House to celebrate the Gawai Dayak festival.

According to KGS tournament director Mazlan Mohammad Salleh, the main objective of organising the festive tourneys was to draw members irrespective of race and religion, and foster relationship between the members, management and the staff.

“For this Hari Raya Golf and Open House, we had invited 40 orphans from Peryatim and Pusat Nur Murni who were also given Duit Raya,” he said.

Meanwhile, Johari Aman clinched the Men’s Group A nett title after beating Richard Sim Kay Hak on count back (OCB) after both returned similar scores of 70 strokes.

The third and fourth positions were also decided OCB, with Amir Hamzah finishing ahead of Marioni Madai. Both posted a score of 71 and a stroke further in fifth spot was Muhammad Hadit Fathely.

Lee Kah Ming carded a 77 to win the Group A gross title, with Mohammad Lokman (79), Daniel Yeo (81), Immanuel David (83, OCB) and Terence Chai (83) finishing in second to fifth placings.

The Group B nett champion was Robin Lee who posted a 66 score, finishing just one stroke ahead of Mazlan Mohammad Salleh and Wilson Wong.

Wesley Chai returned the day’s score of 92 to walk away with the Group B gross title, followed by Liew Tham Fatt (94) in second place, Sam Lau Hui Saint (95) in third place while the fourth and fifth placings winners were Abu Bakar Mohd Suhai (96) and Law Hin Teck (97) respectively.

The Ladies nett competition saw Daisy Kon carding a 69 score to beat Pauline Gan (72) and Amber Tho Eu Mei (73) into second and third placings respectively.

Kim Mi Kyeong piped Latifah Bujang to the Ladies gross crown OCB after both scored 93.

The main prizes in the form of electrical goods were given away by KGS vice president Gani Matahir @ Abdul Ghanie Tahir and club captain Dr David Sylvester Ling.

There were no takers for the hole-in-one prize worth RM10,000 while a lucky draw was conducted with a 40” Sharp LED television as the main prize.
