Youth killed, pillion rider hurt as bike slams into road divider

KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed while his female pillion rider was lightly injured after the pair crashed into a road divider at Mile 29, Jalan Kuching-Serian, early yesterday morning.

Vivien Clif Johnson, 20, from Kampung Mantung Birawan, Serian died at the scene while the 19-year-old pillion rider, from Kampung Longgo Bedup, sustained minor injuries in the 5am mishap.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief DSP Bingkok John said initial investigation indicated the pair were heading towards the city from Serian when their motorcycle skidded and crashed into a road divider.

The pillion rider is currently receiving medical treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital and is said to be in stable condition, he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In a separate road accident, an 18-year-old male was seriously injured following a head-on collision between his car and a lorry at Kampung Mata Parang, here yesterday.

The 6am incident left the victim with serious injuries and resulted in him being rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
