KUCHING: Slightly smaller apartments likely to be featured at the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association’s (Sheda) annual property expo this year, given that developers have recently been pushing for these projects to make the entry point of owning a house a bit lower.

According to Sheda treasurer general Kevin Choo,  this year they will likely be seeing a lot of RM300,000 plus apartment houses because currently apartments usually go for RM400,00 plus, RM500,000 plus and some are even priced at RM1 million.

“But because the market is not exactly buoyant, so we’ll be seeing some smaller ones coming about. I think this expo will be quite interesting,” Choo commented.

Choo said that Timber Land Group itself, of which he is the group managing director, is launching one apartment block, starting from RM320,000.

“We are looking along that range. So, if that qualifies as affordable…because usually when we talk about affordable housing, we are talking about RM350,000 and below, more or less, so yes, there will be some of those coming up,” he observed. “We will be expecting a lot more people coming as well.”

Choo also said the market is slowly picking up and as people have been holding out for so long, he believes that a lot of people are dying to buy a property.

With a lot of apartments priced at RM300,000 plus coming in, he hopes that the expo will get a lot of visitors this year.

On number of visitors expected to grace the event over the weekend, Sheda Property Expo 2017 organising chairman Gary Kho Thong How who is also the senior sales and marketing manager of CMS Property Development Sdn Bhd (CMS Property Development) revealed that 2016’s figures ranged from 9,000 plus to 10,000 and they are expecting this year to also be at this figure or even more due to more booths participating this time around.

Sheda will be holding its 20t Sheda Property Expo 2017 from July 14 to 16, 2017, Friday to Sunday, at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

As of the press conference yesterday, Kho announced that all booths have been taken up by major developers in Sarawak including the expo’s main sponsors: Naim Land Sdn Bhd, MJC City Development Sdn Bhd, CMS Property Development, RB Development Sdn Bhd and Ibraco Bhd.

Other big players include Elica Sdn Bhd, Kenbest Sdn Bhd, Polarwood Sdn Bhd and Chen Ling Development Sdn Bhd. In addition, visitors can expect to find property choices offered in up-and-coming prime locations in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia and Australia.

The Sheda Property Expo will host over 100 booths with more than 70 exhibitors. Visitors will be able to browse through offers from automobile dealers, home furnishings and appliances and real estate agents as well as obtain the latest loan facility updates from bankers and Government agencies.

Sheda will focus on family-oriented activities this year. Highly anticipated activities this year include Sheda JuniorStar Singing Contest, GoldenStar Singing Contest, Zumba fitness and an interesting sharing session on how to cure your backpain.

Children will be able to enjoy colouring contests and also get free balloons from the clown visits this weekend. Visitors will also stand a chance to win electrical products and Starbucks card by registering at the counter.

In addition, Sheda will be collaborating with the Kuching Life Care Society on the blood donation campaign. Donors will receive freebies after successfully donating bloods.

The expo is managed by IDA Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd and covered by the official newspaper under See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd and official media partner under Good Harvest Media Sdn Bhd.
