BINTULU: A total of 810 students from eight secondary schools here are taking part in the ‘Kembara Cemerlang SPM 2017’ programme until Aug 1.

The Form 5 students are from SMK Bintulu, SMK Bandar Bintulu, SMK Baru Bintulu, SMK Kidurong, SMK Kemena, SMK Asyakirin, SMK Sebauh, and SMK Tatau. The programme is jointly organised by Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) and the Bintulu Education Office in collaboration with the Bintulu Principals Association and Bintulu Excellent Teachers Council (MGC).

“This year we decided to do some transformation in this programme by selecting 810 students, which is the biggest number so far for the past five years,” said Bintulu Education Office School Management Unit head Law Siong Lee, who officially opened the event at SMK Bintulu yesterday on behalf of Bintulu Education officer Fred Entau.

“We are very fortunate for the strong support given by BPHB as part of their corporate social responsibility effort, and without their sponsorship it would be difficult for us to carry out this kind of programme.”

He said 120 teachers are involved in the programme, which could also enhance their teaching skills.

“I hope from this programme we will be able to improve the quality of our students and their overall performance in academics and life,” Law added.

BPHB Group Corporate Services senior manager Maslihah Tioh urged the students to do their best in their examinations.

“You people nowadays are more advanced and very fortunate to be exposed to quality education unlike our old days and I do hope you can get some tips for your examination from this programme,” she said.

The programme was coordinated by 36 facilitators who are experts in their respective fields of Mathematics, English, History, and Bahasa Melayu.

Among those present were BPHB Corporate Affairs Department manager Zurady Mohamad Effandy, and Bintulu MGC president Abg Muammar Ghaddafi Abg Yaakub.
