TAWAU: A 28-year-old man was detained after he allegedly posted provocative comments on his Facebook page that were of seditious nature against the government and the police.

Tawau police chief ACP Fadil bin Hj Marsus said the suspect was arrested by the police on July 9 and would be charged under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission Act 1998.

Fadil said the man was unhappy after the police took action over  indiscriminate parking at One Arena Commercial Centre at Mile 3, Sin Onn Road near here after receiving complaints from residents.

The owners drove away their vehicles when they realised that the police were around.

During the operation, Fadil said the traffic police issued 21 summonses and seized three vehicles for further action.

Fadil reminded the people that the police would not tolerate such behavior and seditious comments against the police.
