PUTRAJAYA:  The official birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhammad V is now set on Sept 9 for this year.

The Prime Minister’s Department announced today that the new date was shifted from the last Saturday of July (July 29).

“The government has agreed that the king’s official birthday is changed from July 29 to Sept 9, this year,” it said in a statement.

This was the second time this year that the Agong’s official birthday was changed.

In April this year, it was announced that the official birthday would be shifted from the first Saturday of June to the last Saturday of July.

No reason was cited for the latest change.

Coincidentally, Sept 9 is also the official birthday of Sarawak’s Yang Di-pertua Negeri.

When queried, an Astana Negeri spokesman confirmed the peculiarity of the matter but said that it would be left to the state government to respond to it.
