TAWAU: A total of 64 stalls at Pasar Gantung, a hotel and four shoplots were destroyed in an early morning fire here today.

Seven other shoplots were fifty percent destroyed.

No casualty was reported, according to District Fire and Rescue Department acting station chief Faisal Ahmad, who said firemen faced difficulties in putting out the fire due to low water pressure in the 4.50am incident.

The stalls destroyed were clothes, textiles and handicrafts at Pasar Gantung, Penginapan VS, while the shops affected were a boutique shop, a cellular phone shop, hardware and pawn shop, which were located at Stephen Tan Road.

The fire was put under control at 7.23am after the Waterworks Department was contacted and the department’s water tanker was sent to the scene.

Police, Civil Defense Department, RELA, Waterworks Department, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd and Tawau Municipal Council assisted in the operation.
