TYT, CM, DCM in Brunei for Sultan’s 71st birthday do

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan arrived here yesterday to attend the Sultan of Brunei’s 71st birthday celebration today.

This is Abang Johari’s first visit to Brunei as chief minister.

Awang Tengah is the minister-in-attendance to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who arrived later in the evening from Kuala Lumpur.

They are present on the invitation of HRH Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah, who will grant an audience to the visitors at Istana Darul Aman.

On hand to welcome Abang Johari and Awang Tengah at Brunei International Airport were Deputy Ministers at the Prime Minister’s Office Datuk Paduka Mohamad Roselan Mohamad Daud and Datuk Paduka Hamdan Abu Bakar.

Accompanying the chief minister and his deputy were their respective spouses Datin Amar Datuk Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang and Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud.

The Head of State, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will be attending the royal birthday parade, investiture ceremony and state banquet at Nurul Iman Palace.

Topping the list will be an audience with HRH Sultan Hassan Bolkiah, where issues of mutual interest and economic cooperation between Sarawak and Brunei will be discussed.

Meanwhile, Awang Tengah and Dayang Morliah also took the opportunity to visit close friend and former Deputy Prime Minister of Brunei Dato Seri Utama Dr Awang Muhammad Jamil Al-Sufri Umar at his residence.
