MIRI: The activities and care given by childcare providers in a nursery or child care centre will influence the physical and mental development of children under their care.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting at the closing of a course for childcare providers on Saturday night said: “It is important for a nursery or centre to have caretakers who are qualified, experienced and trained in childcare. They must also shower the children under their care with tender loving care.”

Thirty-nine participants, including four from Mukah and one from Lawas attended the 28-day course organised here under the Association of Registered Childcare Providers Miri.

“To stimulate their thinking and capture the attention and interest of the children, there must be plenty of activities and interaction like reading, singing and playing,” Ting said, adding that both the centre and childcare providers must design and carry out appropriate children’s activities with the multiple goals of promoting the intellectual, social, emotional, aesthetic and physical development of young children.

At the same time, Ting reminded the childcare providers that they must spearhead and advocate for quality early childhood care and education for children.

“There are plenty of programmes, consultancy and training for childcare providers available for you to keep abreast with changes, particularly with the explosion of information communication technology (ICT), and to improve the quality and standard of the service provided,” Ting emphasised.

“Therefore, it is important for providers to move as one towards quality childcare and services.”

Also present was Association of Registered Childcare Providers Miri president Angela Goh.
