KUCHING: The aggressive and comprehensive approach adopted by police in the war against drugs in Sarawak has resulted in the arrest of 30 traffickers so far this year.

Outgoing state police commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the number of drug traffickers caught in the first seven months of this year had increased from 22 individuals over the same period last year.

“Overall, Sarawak police arrested 3,680 people from January up till June for various drug offences,” he said in his speech during a farewell parade held at state police headquarters at Jalan Badruddin here yesterday.

On the state’s crime index, Mazlan said a total of 3,340 cases were recorded from Jan 1 to July 13 this year, a drop of 149 cases or four per cent from the corresponding period last year.

Mazlan has been appointed as the new Selangor Chief of Police following the retirement of Datuk Seri Abu Samah Mat.
