Driver killed, passenger injured in accident

KOTA KINABALU: Eyewitnesses of a fatal accident at Jalan Khidmat here yesterday are urged to come forward and assist with their investigations.

The collision between a Perodua Myvi and a Perodua Alza claimed the life of a man and caused injuries to a six-year-old boy.

Acting city police chief Superintendent George Abd Rakman said the deceased was the Myvi driver been identified as Dato @ Oliver Bin Bangau, 50.

The impact of the crash also broke his young passenger’s right shoulder and teeth, George told reporters. The other driver only sustained minor injuries.

George said the accident occurred about 11.50 am along Jalan Khidmat.

“The Alza driver was from Bukit Padang heading to Tuaran, while Dato was driving from Kolombong to Bukit Padang. The Alza driver claimed that the Myvi which was coming from the front had veered into the opposite lane causing him to jam on his brakes.

“The Alza then skidded to the right side of the road and collided with the Myvi driven by Dato,” George said, adding that Dato was pronounced dead by a doctor from Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2.

It was raining at the time of the accident he said.

“Those who witnessed the accident are urged to contact the investigating officer Inspector Norkumala Bt Osman at 0138834239 to facilitate investigations into the case,” he said.
