LIMBANG: A senior citizen and a young boy were killed in a horrific head-on collision at KM36 Jalan Limbang-Tedungan here on Sunday evening.

The incident, involving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), took place near Kampung Bidang, a short distance from the Malaysia-Brunei border and the Tedungan Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex.

Police have identified the deceased as Abdul Malik Abdul Rahim, eight, who was a passenger in the SUV, and Duncan Taboh, 66, who was the driver of the MPV. Duncan was killed on the spot in the 5.30pm accident, while Abdul Malik succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to a clinic in Batu Danau.

Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) were summoned to the scene to extricate Duncan, who was pinned to his seat.

Aside from Abdul Malik, six other family members were travelling in the SUV. All six were injured – one seriously – and were sent to Limbang Hospital for treatment.

Limbang OCPD Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai said initial investigation revealed that the Tedungan-bound vehicle driven by Duncan had entered the opposite lane and into the path of the oncoming vehicle in which Abdul Malik was travelling in.

Limbang Bomba chief Tawang Lingem, meanwhile, said eight personnel were rushed to the scene after a distress call was received at 6.35pm. Various rescue tools were deployed to extricate Duncan’s body from the wrecked MPV, he said.
