MIRI: It was a grand event at Istana Darul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan on Saturday night, which hosted the royal banquet in celebration of Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 71st birthday.

The VVIP guests included Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, who were seated with the Sultan and Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Pengiran Mohamed Alam at the palace hall.

Taib and Raghad were part of the state delegation to the sultanate last weekend, which included Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datin Amar Dato’ Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengan Ali Hasan was the minister-in-attendance for the Brunei visit from July 14 to 15. However, Abang Johari had to seek leave and fly back to Sarawak to officiate at the 20th Rainforest World Music Festival 2017 in Kuching.

Taib also took some time off the two-day visit to join a ‘tahlil’ (prayer for the dead) session at the Brunei Royal Mausoleum.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman and his wife Datin Seri Faridah Tussin also attended the royal banquet.
