KOTA KINABALU: SMK Inanam has once again been recognised as a litter-free school and displayed its commitment to the environment by participating in the City Hall ‘Bawa Beg Bah’ campaign, to reduce the use of plastic bags.

Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai congratulated the school upon its achievement in renewing its litter-free status, making it one of 77 schools under the regulation of City Hall.

“City Hall is very proud that SMK Inanam has not only taken up the challenge of the Anti-Litterbug Campaign, but also managed to maintain its litter-free status.

“In addition to the 77 litter-free schools under City Hall regulation, the number of litter-free premises has also risen to 160,” he said in his opening address during the recognition ceremony at the school, yesterday.

His speech was delivered by City Hall deputy director-general of operations Noorliza Awang Alip.

The mayor also thanked SMK Inanam for implementing the practice of separating recyclable materials as a sign of support for the 3R programme (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

According to him, the S.A.C. (Stop From Littering, Advice Those Who Litter, Collect When You See Rubbish) concept is given emphasis in an effort to make the city litter-free.

“A school’s litter-free status will be retracted immediately if litter is found within the school grounds. I urge schools to ensure their surroundings are litter-free at all times,” said Yeo.

Also present at the ceremony was SMK Inanam excellent principal Mozidah Hamzah.
