PETALING JAYA: First City University College’s Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Dr Christine Lee Siew Ken was appointed as a Fellow of the Asean Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET) recently.

As an AAET Fellow, Lee will join Asean’s leading professional engineers and technologists in dedicating their expertise and networks towards the promotion, enhancement and wider application of engineering sciences, technology and innovation.

The combined effort of these experts is crucial for the advancement of economy, society and humanity in Asean communities in particular, and communities worldwide in general.

Lee said that she was surprised and excited when informed of her election as a Fellow at AAET’s recent Annual General Meeting (AGM).

“It is a privilege to become a member of an eminent group of successful Asean engineers, technologists and industrialists who play an important role in the overall development of the Asean region,” she said.

Her contribution to AAET would be in her research interest in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Internet of Things (IoT), in particular how AI can solve challenges of big data and data analytics in IoT.

“AI techniques such as Neural Network, Fuzzy Logic and Genetic Algorithms can be applied in some of these areas. There is also a growing interest in cognitive IoT. As the head of the Centre for Excellence in Research and Innovation (CERI) at First City UC, I believe that this appointment will enhance the institution’s position in research, development and commercialisation,” she added.

In keeping up with the latest industry developments and progress in a world which relies on technological advancement and its application, the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at First City UC under Lee’s leadership as its dean is offering specially-crafted courses to equip students with the necessary skills relevant to the industry for immediate employment.

In line with this, the faculty is rolling out its own home-grown programmes which are now accepting registrations for the next intake in September 2017.

In the near future, as the faculty continues innovating itself to keep up with industry demands, there will be more new programmes for students who wish to pursue niche careers in the engineering, and computing and information technology fields.

These programmes are designed with the employers’ needs in mind, taught by academics with years of experience both in teaching and industry, and utilise state-of-the-art facilities and advanced software available at the campus — all to ensure First City UC students are able to secure jobs which are really needed in the industry, and provide them with the upper hand to kick-start their careers immediately upon graduation.

Students applying for these new programmes will be eligible to benefit from the Inaugural Incentive.

Registration is open for programmes at Diploma, Degree and Master levels for intakes in September and October 2017.

First City UC will be having its next Open Day on July 22-23, and Aug 12, 13, 19 and 20. There will be various talks, interactive activities, special discounts and other exciting offers available for visitors during these special weekends.
