Man extricated from car in drain pronounced dead

KUCHING: A man driving a car which plunged into a drain at Stutong Baru resettlement scheme was pronounced dead at the scene early yesterday morning.

Ling Kian Hua, 30, from Batu Kawah New Township was driving alone.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said Tabuan Jaya Fire Station personnel were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call at 12.37am.

They arrived at the scene at 12.51am to find the car in the drain, with the victim (driver) pinned to the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

“He was extricated from the wreckage of the vehicle with the assistance of Civil Defence Forces (APM) and police personnel,” reported a statement issued yesterday.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and his body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary for a postmortem.

Police are investigating.
