SERIAN: Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus expresses his gratitude to all the relevant government agencies and organisations that are working hard to contain the rabies outbreak in Serian.
Adding on, he hopes such ongoing effort and also the support given by the public would culminate in ending the spread of the virus, which has put Serian in the limelight for the wrong reasons.
“The very important task (undertaken) by the Veterinary Services Department, Health Department, the Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), local councils and many others is aimed at stopping the rabies virus from spreading.
“I advise the public to continue assisting and cooperating with these agencies and organisations. We all hope this (outbreak) would end soon,” he said at the presentation of grants to local organisations at Serian Resident’s Office yesterday.
So far, the rabies infection has killed four children from Serian since the outbreak was reported on June 30. The fifth case of positive rabies infection involves a 52-year-old man from Kampung Remun, also in Serian.
Yesterday, John presented a government grant of RM100,000 from the Chief Minister’s Office to the Chung Hua School Serian Management Board.
The grant was pledged by the state’s fifth chief minister, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem during his visit to the school last year.
Adenan passed away in January this year, at the age of 72.
Later, John presented Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants amounting to RM301,000 to 35 local organisations including the village security and development committees (JKKKs), school parent-teacher associations (PTAs) and clubs at his service centre.
