KUCHING: The State Veterinary Services Department (JPVS) will be holding another vaccination operation for dogs at the Mile 7 Basketball Court at Kota Sentosa here tomorrow (July 24) from 10am to 4pm.

This will be the second day of the operation after today following the declaration by the state government that Mile 5 in Jalan Semeba is now a rabies-infected area this morning.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat, priority will be given to dogs of owners living within the 10km radius of ground zero where the virus was detected in Mile 5, Jalan Semeba.

In total, 20 areas have since been declared rabies-infected areas, most of which are located in Serian, with one each in Sri Aman and Kuching divisions thus far.

Since the outbreak in June, four victims, all of which were children, have died.

A 52-year old man – the fifth victim – is reportedly warded at the Sarawak General Hospital.
