Husband of murdered Indonesian woman remanded seven days

MIRI: An investigation into the murder of an Indonesian woman, whose body was found at an oil palm estate on Saturday, took a twist after police arrested the husband for the crime.

The 67-year-old suspect, who claimed to have found her body, was picked up by police from a workers’ quarters at the private plantation near here around 11pm Sunday.

He was produced in court yesterday where Judge Steve Ritikos granted the seven-day remand application made by investigating officer ASP Koay Kok Ping under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).

The man had claimed that his 43-year-old wife had gone missing while the pair was at the plantation, and that he had discovered her lifeless body after searching for about five hours.

Prior to the incident, the two of them, who were employed as labourers, had gone to the oil palm estate at Sungai Selat, Pakut in Bekenu, to collect fruit bunches and cut grass.

Police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
