KUCHING: About 1,100 individuals will be showcasing their talents and skills during the Kuching Festival Cash Martial Arts Display on Aug 12 from 7.30pm.

The event, organised by Kuching City South Council (MBKS) and sponsored by Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd., is scheduled to take place at the Sarawak Hockey Stadium here.

Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd general manager Jackson Lim handed over the sponsorship worth RM25,000 to MBKS mayor Datuk James Chan during a simple ceremony held at the latter’s office here on Monday.

The company has been sponsoring the community event for 21 years as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“MBKS through Natural Avenue gives a platform for martial art exponents to showcase their skills, and this is part and parcel of the celebration of Kuching City Day,” Chan said.

He pointed out that the event is not so much about martial arts but movement and exercise for people of all ages and races to promote greater understanding.

He thus called on people from all walks of life not to miss the opportunity to gain an insight into the world of martial arts.

“This is the only one time when you can see a package of martial arts under one representation, and they include wushu, taichi, silat, akido and selemban.

“And only Kuching City does this for its people. We appreciate the sponsorship given by Natural Avenue for this healthy event in Kuching City,” added Chan.

Meanwhile, Lim pledged to continue supporting the community event for many years to come.

“Businesses are affected because of challenging situation but we will continue to be part of the mayor’s team,” he added.

It is learnt that the tai chi group will be sending 800 representatives followed by silat (230 people), akido (25), wushu (20) and selemban (nine).

Apart from that, MBKS is awaiting for a response from the muaythai organisation.

Among those present during the ceremony were MBKS city secretary Vincent Ang and Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd senior manager Angeline Yeo.
