Private school teacher perishes in crash

MIRI: A private school teacher was killed in a road accident early yesterday when the car she was driving crashed into a tree at Jalan Miri-Pujut.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Shirlime Raga of Permyjaya here, was travelling alone from Pujut towards the city centre when the incident happened around 4.30am.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief DSP Bingkok John said initial investigation indicated the deceased’s vehicle had gone out of control prior to the crash.

Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) responded to the scene following a distress call and managed to extricate the victim from her wrecked car around 5am.

Shirlime was later pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
