Chinese investors call on Awang Tengah

KUCHING: Representatives of investment companies from China are here meeting Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to finalise their proposed investment in Bintulu.

The Chinese delegation from Heibei Zinwuan Steel Group Co Ltd, MCC Group and Hebel Port Group, is led by Hebei Xinwuan Steel Group Co Ltd president Wang Wenan and deputy president Gao Wei.

The delegation was initially scheduled to meet Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg before paying a courtesy call on Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development.

Since the chief minister is away in Australia for an official visit, Awang Tengah represented him at the meeting held at Wisma Sumber Alam here yesterday.

The meeting was a follow up to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was signed between the state government, Hebei Xinwuan

Steel Group and MCC Overseas Limited in Beijing, China on Nov 1, and was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Signing on behalf of the state government then was deputy State Secretary Datu Ismawi Ismuni, while signing for Hebei Xinwuan Steel Group Co Ltd was Wang Wenan and Chen Changan the vice president of MCC Overseas Ltd.

Under the MoU, Hebei Xinwuan Steel Group has proposed to build the US$3 billion steel mill in Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu.

MCC, a China-government linked company, is the joint venture partner of Hebei that will be tasked to build the factory.

Hebei Port officials are coming here to look at the port facilities in Bintulu and Simalaju ports.
