WWII bomb unearthed by construction worker in Sandakan, Sabah

The bomb, believed to be the type dropped by aerial bombers in World War II, is said to be still active.

SANDAKAN: A 550-pound bomb, believed to be a remnant from World War II, was discovered by a construction worker carrying out excavation work near the Road Transport Department (RTD) building here earlier today.

Police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin, who confirmed the finding, said the bomb measuring 130cm in length was still active.

A team from the Sandakan Bomb Unit led by SM Zainal was rushed to the scene located 50 meters from the RTD building and some 450 meters from the Taman Airport residential housing area.

The Bomb Destruction Unit from Sabah Police Headquarters is expected to arrive on July 30th to defuse the bomb.

Meanwhile, the bomb is currently cordoned off in the area where it was found and kept under the close watch by security forces.
