Angel Hii, Shukri Latip share Pusaka spoils

KUCHING: Junior golf star Angel Hii added another feather to her cap when she won the Women’s Open nett title at the Pusaka Golf tournament at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) in Petra Jaya yesterday.

The 13-year old student from Tunku Putra International School, who plays with a handicap of 7, posted a eight-under 64 to finish one stroke ahead of South Korean Kwon Gyung Sun while six strokes behind was another South Korean contender Kim Mi Kyeong. Angel received a 43” television and a trophy.

Rebecca Sia lifted the gross title after carding a score of 84 and Christina Teo Kui Lan was second on 95 strokes.

The Men’s Open nett champion was Shukri Latip who returned the day’s score of 65 and he received a 60” Sharp television, personal trophy and challenge trophy.

Two strokes behind in second place was Zayadi Sebeli while Liew Thiam Fat posted a 68 to pip Kedong Luhat on count back (OCB) for the third spot.

The fifth to 10th placings were also decided by OCB, with Abang Ibrahim Abg Salleh finishing ahead of Sukiman Aini, Bakhtair Sabri, Andrew Wong, Abang Shamsudin Abg Salleh and Ahmad Adib Ridhwan.

As for the Men’s Gross contest, consistent performer Lee Kah Ming beat Johari Aman for the title and a Samsung Tab S280 on count back after both had similar scores of 78.

In third to fifth spots were Daniel Yeo, Immanuel David and Abdul Rahman Manchor.

Herman Yusuf was the winner of the Pusaka category with 37 Stableford points, followed by Ameel Aswad, Hassan Hasnan, Bahrawi Muhammad and Awang Mentali in second to fifth placings.

Meanwhile, Dato Dr Chai Khun Chung walked away with the VIP title and a Sony 55” television and trophy with his score of 36 Stableford points.

Losing out to Dr Chai on count back was Dato Sri Mohd Khalid Yusuf while  Peter Sawal was third with 34 points, followed by Dato Zaidi Khaidin Zainie and Pusaka general manager Datu Sarudu Hoklai in fourth and fifth placings.

The winner of the Invited Guest category was Masri Juni who scored 39 Stableford points to beat Zakaria Halmi and Ng Liang Yu into second and third placings on count back.

Brian Yeo piped Richard Song Swee Jin to the third placing OCB after both scored 38 Stableford points.

The annual golf competition organised by the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation for the 14th year attracted 240 participants.

However, there were no winners for the three hole-in-one prizes, which were a Perodua Bezza 1300X Auto car worth RM47,000 sponsored by Saratim Insurance Agency Services Sdn Bhd for the feat at Santubong Hole 17 and Demak Hole 17; a Rolex watch worth RM20,000 sponsored by Lonpac Insurance Berhad for the winner at Matang Hole 3, Siol Hole 6 and Demak Hole 14; and a Home Theater worth RM15,000 sponsored by MPI Generali Insurans Berhad at Santubong Hole 14, Siol Hole 4 and Matang Hole 8.
