KUCHING: More than 340 swimmers from 48 schools in Kuching and Samarahan will take the plunge at the 7th Kota Samarahan Amateur Swimming Association (Kotas) annual inter-primary and secondary school meet at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre, Petra Jaya this weekend.

SJK Chung Hua No. 2, champions for two consecutive years 2015-2016, will be going all out not to only defend their title but also to keep the Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah Challenge Trophy for good if they win again this year.

St Joseph Private School, defending champions in the secondary school section, show they are serious in retaining the challenge trophy by fielding the biggest team.

A total of 108 events including the much anticipated relays will be contested over two days.

Individual trophies will be awarded to the best girl and boy swimmers in the five age-groups.

A number of school teams will be spearheaded by Sukma and state swimmers including national gold medalists.

Kotas president Alice Kwon has expressed her appreciation to local companies, Sarawak Sports Corporation, Sarawak State Sports Council and the Sarawak Education Department, Scouts and Red Crescent for their support.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will close the event at 4:30pm on Sunday and give away the main prizes.
