KUCHING: Although the upset 2-1 win over Selangor at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium on Wednesday may not count for anything in the ongoing Malaysia Cup, the victory over the Red Giants will certainly inject a dose of confidence in the Crocs to carry on their challenge in the remaining matches in the Super League.

Sarawak are already out of contention for the Malaysia Cup with only four points from one win and two defeats after three matches while JDT and Selangor have booked the two slots for the quarterfinals.

Their final Group D match will be against Terengganu at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium on Sept 9.

However, Football Association of Sarawak president Dato Posa Majais praised the Crocs’ performance against Selangor.

He said although Sarawak are already out of the Malaysia Cup, the win is still vital to give the players the much needed confidence to face the remaining matches in the Super League.

As such, Posa wants the players to maintain their winning momentum to ensure that the Crocs remain in the Super League next season.

“Credit to the players after they defeated Selangor. This win will certainly give them more confidence to play in the coming Super League matches.

“I hope that they can maintain their winning momentum when we take on Penang at the State Stadium this Saturday (Aug 5),” he said yesterday.

Posa added that Sarawak has no alternative but to beat Penang at their home ground to keep the hopes of staying in the Super League alive.
