KOTA KINABALU: Police are urging witnesses to the assault of a newspaper editor on Saturday morning to come forward and assist with investigations into the case.

City Police Chief ACP M Chandra in making the call said that the suspect in the case is believed to be a male of Chinese descent.

“The news editor, a 65-year-old local, sustained facial injuries and does not remember much of the assault. All he can recall was that as he was heading home from having drinks with friends, he noticed a motorcyclist tailing him.

“He stopped at a fuel station in Jalan Kolam Luyang and the motorcyclist did so too. He then approached the rider and spoke to him in Chinese asking why he was following him. The motorcyclist did not reply but instead took off his helmet and swung it at the editor hitting him of the left side of the head.

“The blow rendered him unconscious,” Chandra said, adding that the victim regained consciousness at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was rushed for treatment. His condition is stable and is now under medical observation,” Chandra said.

Chandra said that the victim’s son has lodged a police report on the incident which occurred at about 3am at a fuel station in Luyang.
