The suspect, a local, had boarded a flight from Kuala Lumpur before arriving in Miri.

Miri Malaysian Royal Customs Department (Enforcement) deputy director Mohli Amri confirmed the arrest.

He said the customs officers had found the drugs, suspected to be syabu, inside the suspect’s bag after it was screen upon arrival.

“The suspect has been remanded for five days until Aug 12 to facilitate investigations,” he said.

It was the department’s first arrest this year.

“The suspect is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which carries the death sentence upon conviction,” Mohli added.
