KUCHING: The state Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) has announced a new rabies virus case at Kampung Kuala in Gedong Samarahan.

Currently, the total number of rabies to human infections since the outbreak was discovered in June in Serian stands at six.

In the latest case, a seven-year-old boy was bitten by a dog on June 17 and was subsequently administered anti-rabies vaccinations three times consecutively in July, but began to show symptoms of the dreaded disease on Aug 1 when he came down with a fever, a bad cough and began vomiting profusely.

He reportedly began suffering from hallucinations on Aug 3 – a day before he was supposed to get a fourth anti-rabies vaccination.

The victim is currently warded at the Sarawak General Hospital.
