28 attend SPKK course in Sibu

KUCHING: Twenty-eight participants from the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), sports associations and schools are attending the National Sports Science Level II (SPKK) course at Kingwood Hotel in Sibu from Aug 7-12.

Instructors for the course, organized by the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and MSNS, are Dr Chin Ngien Siong, Prof Madya Dr Tengku Fadilah Tengku Kamalden, Dr Pathmanthan K Suppiah, Dr Zainal Othman, Dana Raja Narayanasamy, Mohd Rizal Md Razali and Lim Eng Hooi.

It aims to equip the participants which include coaches and PE teachers with theoretical and practical elements of sports science to enhance and improve their coaching skills.

According to SSC CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee, the application of sports science will raise the level of competency among coaches and help develop athletes’ performance.

“It is vital that the SSC and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports invest in sports science equipment and tools that can measure the physiological, psychological and physical aspects of the athletes scientifically and can enhance their performance to the next level,” he added.

The course coordinators are MSNS head of sports development and training resources unit Jubali Suhaili and Mohd Shahinaz Reza Mohd Sanusi from the National Academy of Malaysia (ISN Malaysia).
