Couple arrested for suspected drug possession

MIRI: Police have detained a couple for suspected drug abuse at a shophouse at Sepupok, Batu Niah here today.

The suspects, both 23-year-old Indonesians, were detained at around 6.40am.

Both were found in possession of drugs but tested negative for it.

“Police found four transparent plastic packets containing chunks of crystal suspected to be syabu following an inspection of a bedroom in the house.

“The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” said Miri district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.

Meanwhile, police also arrested two local men suspected of drug abuse at the living room of the house at the same time. Both suspects, believed to be in their 20s, were from Kampung Masjid Sepupok Niah.

Urine tests conducted on both suspects came back positive for methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Members of the public reporting suspicion of drug activities conducted in the area led to the raid and discovery of both cases.
