KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Henry Sum Agong has nothing much to say about the likelihood for him to defend the Lawas constituency in the 14th general election (GE14).

The parliamentarian was not even willing to express his wish whether or not to seek re-election, insisting that he had no say over the matter.

“It is up to the people, the party (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu – PBB) and the (Barisan Nasional – BN) leadership.

“I think I have to say that in politics, we serve the people until the end of every term. After that, we will see what would happen next,” he said when met at Senari Synergy Sdn Bhd office here.

Asked if he would defend Lawas should the leadership in PBB and BN decide to retain him, Henry only responded: “It’s hard for me to say – I’m still serving. We don’t know when the election is.”

Henry is currently serving his fourth term as a parliamentarian.

“I am Lawas MP for two terms; before this, my constituency was Bukit Mas, also for two terms.

“My friends asked me what happened to Bukit Mas – I told them (as a joke) that I sold Bukit Mas for some money,” he quipped.

In the 2013 parliamentary polls, Henry retained Lawas in a three-cornered fight with Dr Bob Baru Langub of Democratic Action Party (DAP) and State Reform Party (STAR)’s Ali Rahman Kamseh.

The BN man polled 9,928 votes against his two opponents and won the elections with a whopping majority of 6,030.
