BARAM: A total of 15,216 Penans have received valid personal documents including Mykad during the exercise carried out by Special Mobile Registration Unit of the National Registration Department (NRD).

Based on statistics, the Penan population in the state stands at over 16,000.

According to NRD Special Mobile Unit Miri head Affrizan Bujang, his side will intensify their efforts in handling applications and issuance of important documents for the communities living in the state rural and remote pockets.

Recently, Affrizan’s 10-member team went to Long Kevok – one of many rural areas here – where they processed five late birth registrations, 22 cases of renewal or replacements Mykad, as well as one late application for Mykad and 10 for MyKid.

Eight local residents there received their Mykad.

State NRD Special Unit head Sylvester Tausin was also involved in the exercise.

Meanwhile, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau commended the NRD Special Mobile Unit for reaching out to rural folks.

“I’m giving all my support and assistance to the unit, which goes all out to ensure no citizen will be without their important documents,” he remarked.

Another programme would take place at several longhouses in Long Lama this month, the dates to be announced soon.
