Rugby Lion enters elite circle of poets

LONDON: George North may already be a British and Irish Lions rugby union international but the powerful Wales wing became a member of another select club when he was named a member of the Gorsedd of Bards.

The Gorsedd of the Bards is an association of poets, writers, musicians, artists and other individuals who are deemed to have made a significant contribution to the Welsh nation, the language, and its culture.

Presided over by the Archdruid, members are present on stage during one of the main ceremonies of the National Eisteddfod, which owes its origins to a 12th Ccntury competition to find the best poet and musician in Wales. — AFP
