KOTA KINABALU: With the 14th general election looming closer, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Tan Sri Pairin Kitingan wants the party’s machinery to be ready to face the challenges that come with it.

“Our participation in the election gives us the opportunity to continue with our struggles and to achieve our noble objective which is to champion the rights of Sabah and Sabahans,” Pairin said when officiating PBS Tanjung Aru’s annual general meeting yesterday.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that PBS had, since its formation been fighting for the state and its people and will continue doing so.

“We do this because we want Sabah to continue developing as well as have peace and harmony,” he said.

Pairin who is also Infrastructure Development Minister, said what PBS had done so far could be seen from a bigger picture.

The journey for PBS in the opposition and in BN has not been easy as it faced and overcame many challenges to be where it is now, Pairin stressed.

“What is important is that we have worked hard together to ensure that our objective is realized and what we are doing is done with sincerity for the state and the people,” he said adding that among the challenges faced were the accusations, rumours and falsehoods about the party.

He also reminded PBS members and supporters not to be easily swayed by what they read or see on social media.

They must judge and evaluate what they receive via social media like WhatsApp with wisdom, he said.

“Don’t be influenced by people who are real good talkers because some of them are in politics because they have personal agenda,” he pointed out.

Pairin also assured PBS members that the party will retain seats allocated to it like Tanjung Aru.

“I call on all of you to ensure that PBS wins in the seats it is allocated as this will mean that we will be stronger in BN and our voice will be louder. Make sure that Tanjung Aru wins with a bigger majority,” he said.
