BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Brigadier General Rachmat Mulyana ordered all heads of crime investigation units (reskrim) to remind plantation companies not to burn the land for any reason, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“Heads of crime investigation units should be door to door to meet plantation companies in their respective areas to remind them of criminal law threats if they burn the land,” said the Police Chief in Banjarbaru on Saturday.

According to the Chief of Police, the active movement of the police investigators is in line with the socialization or connection to the community and farmers by Public order officers (Bhabinkamtibmas) members.

If all persuasive or preventive efforts have been made, then there is no compromise if the fact that burning of land remains.

“I order to upright law enforcement firmly both corporations and individuals who caught burning the land,” he said when leading the troop preparedness ceremony to overcome forest and land fire in Banjarbaru.

Rachmat ensures no tolerance of any kind to the land burners, either on a small scale on community land or farmers, let alone plantations owned by large companies.

In the South Kalimantan Police Chief Declaration on the Prohibition of Burning Land, said Rachmat, it is clear all elements of society to equally maintain the environment.

Because the impact of the burning of the land is a smoke haze that is very damaging to health to disturb the visibility of motorists on the highway.

Even airplane flights at Syamsudin Noor Airport are also often disturbed due to the thick smoke that enveloped the area around Banjarbaru and Banjar.

If compared to the same period in 2016, there was a decline of 1,548 hotspots last year. Even in 2015 which became the most severe year in South Kalimantan, there were 4,991 hotspots to cause a thick haze blanket of South Kalimantan air throughout the day.
