Three students involved in fight identified – police

KOTA KINABALU: The identity of the three students who were believed to have started a fight involving two groups of students at Taman Bayumas near here on Wednesday here have been identified.

City police chief ACP M.Chandra said the alleged incident which occurred at a playground at Taman Bayumas around 1 pm on August 9, went viral on social media on Friday.

According to him, the three students came from the same school, two of whom are form four students and another in form three.

Chandra said as a result of the video clip that went viral on Facebook, the school disciplinary teacher lodged a police report at the Inanam police station on the identity of the students and the cause of the fighting incident.

“The fight really took place on August 9 at around 1 pm at the same location. It involved two groups of students from the same school. At first it was only two students who had quarreled before other students intervened.

“It is understood that this fight was not the first time and it was a series of fights on the previous day, but was not uploaded on social media,” he said, adding that the fight was believed to have taken place to show who among the two groups were better or stronger.

According to him, the school is ready to cooperate with the police to assist in the investigation.

He said the case was still under investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, an offence punishable by a jail term of up to two years, or with a fine, or both.
