KOTABARU, S Kalimantan: Kotabaru Resort Police is now standby in facing the potential of forest and land fires by holding preparedness ceremony, AntaranewsKalse reported.

“This ceremony is directly mandated by South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief (Kapolda) to ensure the readiness of facilities and infrastructure,” said Kotabaru Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) H Suhasto here on Monday.

Citing data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), hot spots in the Kotabaru are much lower than in previous years. However, the influence of the El Nino cycle that brings the potential for long drought remains to be anticipated.

So far in Kotabaru, only one hot spot observed, but if you see the weather better take anticipatory steps. “Better (to be anticipated) than to let it happen in the future, more expense, and energy, even material loss costs,” said Suhasto.

Preventive efforts become the main anticipation through socialization of forest fire prevention by sector police to the community.

Especially in prone areas where agriculture or migratory farming are many, here they build posts in cooperation with companies.

In 2016, Kotabaru recorded three sub-district has the highest number of hot spots, namely East Pulau Laut 134, Hampang 92, and West Pulau Laut 90.

“For each prone to fire sub-district it is proposed to build an artificial reservoir, either by using village fund or a third party donation,” he said.
