KOTA KINABALU: MCA Sabah is interested to field a candidate in the east coast area in the coming 14th general election (GE14).

Its deputy state chairman, Datuk Francis Goh, said that MCA Sabah will be requesting for one of the new seats that will be set up in the Silam parliamentary constituency.

Goh added that there are many Chinese voters in the area and MCA Silam is one of the most active BN component parties there.

“Our request for the seat is based on the number of Chinese voters in the area,” he said when contacted yesterday.

“We will also defend the Luyang state seat which is now held by Dr Hiew King Cheu who is active and hardworking in serving the people. We hope that with his help, we will be able to retain the seat,” he said.

Goh, who is also MCA Penampang chief, added that the party will also work hard to wrestle back the Kapayan state seat from the opposition.

MCA Sabah, he added, has activated its machinery and is ready for the 14th general election.

Among the preparation done is planning campaign strategy and training for the voting, counting and balloting agents as well as an election workshop for the MCA Kadazan task force that was held in Tuaran recently.
