Tanjung Hospital Full, Patients Sleeping in Hallway

TANJUNG, S Kalimantan: Six patients in the infant ward of the H Badaruddin General Hospital in Tanjung, Tabalong District, South Kalimantan, were perforced to sleep in the hallway because the available rooms were full, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

One of the patient’s relatives, Endah, here on Thursday said the hospital only prepared mattresses for pediatric patients sleeping in the hallway.

“Because the rooms are full, many pediatric patients are sleeping in the hospital aisle with makeshift facilities,” said Endah.

From monitoring by AntaranewsKalsel, the patient’s parents also have to sit on the floor while keeping their babies lying on the mattress.

There is no pedestal and the hallway in the child’s room is quite narrow, so disturbing the activities of visitors who want to enter the other room.

In the room that is supposed to be for two was filled by three patients because the capacity of inpatient children in this hospital is only 16.

Similar scenes also occured in the inpatient wards of the internal disease, patients must also be placed in the hallway of the hospital because of limited capacity.

Director of H Badaruddin Tanjung Hospital Taufikurrahman Hamdie admitted that the hospital’s capacity for inpatients is insufficient. “To make the addition of rooms is no longer possible because the new hospital will be operated in 2018,” he explained.

The position of the hospital that has the status of Regional Public Service Agency (BLUD) is no longer representative because of the besieged settlement of residents in Jalan Jaksa Agung Tanjung.
