KUCHING: The state government will wait for further action from the federal government regarding the 10 schools in Sarawak identified as hotspots for disciplinary and drug problems, said Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee.

“The list is from the federal (government), isn’t it? So we wait for federal (on) how they tackle it,” he said when met by reporters at SMK Pending here today.

Dr Annuar  told reporters to verify the list first, as the issue is an important one relating to school discipline.

Asked if he was implying that the list was false, Dr Annuar reacted: “I’m not saying that. You read (the statement) first.”

He pointed out that one of the listed schools in Kuching was not happy to be mentioned.

“They got mad, you know. They have turned around the school to become one of the best schools and yet is still in the hotspot list,” he said.

A recently-leaked list of 402 schools identified as hotspots for disciplinary and drug problems by the Education Ministry as reported by a national English daily has drawn the attention of many.

Out of the 402 schools listed, 10 are in Sarawak located in Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Sri Aman, Miri, Baram, Lawas, Simunjan, Samarahan and Bintulu.
