Human Resource Ministry confident of reducing unemployment rate

KLUANG: The Human Resource Ministry is confident of reducing the national unemployment rate down to 3.2 per cent by 2020 through various efforts implemented by its agencies.

Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib said the national unemplyment rate stood at 3.4 per cent as at last month and the people of the country, particularly the youngsters, could benefit from the ministry’s initiative to reduce it.

“They (youngsters) are reminded not to be selective in looking for jobs and to grab the opportunity made available by the government to ensure that they can fill the vacancies currently dominated by foreign workers.

“We want the people to come to us to improve their skills through training, which we have been offering,” he said in his speech when officiating at the Johor-level Southern Zone Train Ride Career Adventure 2.0 in Pekan Rabu Complex here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Johor Unity and Human Resources Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said both the federal and state governments had always been working together in organising human resources or capital programmes.

“Such programmes serve as a direct access for the people to obtain information on training courses, loans and career advancement opportunities which are being offered by the ministry,” he said.

A total of 3,362 jobs are being offered by 40 companies engaged in manufacturing, services, retail, hospitality and tourism, at the programme. — Bernama
