BAU: The Village, Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Siniawan Bazaar is urged to adopt the Siniawan police station to enhance relationship between the local community and the police.

Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh suggested this in the hope that an agreement of sorts between them could be signed within this year, saying the partnership would have a positive impact in reducing the crime index.

“The agreement would be good for both parties so that they could hold many community-based programmes, and that crime-related information could be channelled to the police faster and more effectively,” Miro said when officiating at a crime prevention campaign in Siniawan police station, yesterday.

Bau police chief DSP Mohd Sabri Zainol and community leaders were also present.

According to Miro, crime was not that serious in Bau, but more crime prevention programmes, nevertheless, had to be conducted to reduce such activities.

He also advised the people living in housing estates in the district to keep the telephone numbers of the nearest police stations like in Bau or Siniawan, adding that most crime cases like robbery occurred in housing estates and seldom in villages.

This, he said, was to enable them to contact the police in case of crime occurring in their housing estates or any suspicious character loitering in their midst.

He also advised owners of motorcycles to be careful with their machines and safety helmets. They must double-lock their motorcycles and securely fasten their helmets or else they would be stolen.

At the function, Miro also presented padlocks to motorcyclists and later had a walkabout at Siniawan bazaar together with the police and community leaders.
