Calling entries for Coach Symposium-cum-Sports Science Seminar

KUCHING: Organisers are calling for entries for  the 3rd East Malaysian Coaching Symposium and Sports Science Seminar which will be held from Oct 10-12 at the Riverside Majestic Hotel.

This was announced by the chief executive officer of Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) Dr Ong Kong Swee who said that entries are still open to those who are interested to participate in the three-day event.

“It will be an interesting event because there are a few notable speakers who are presenting a number of topics on sports science and management as well as those related to coaching,” he said on the event which is the first of its kind to be held here.

The event is jointly organised by SSC, National Sports Institute (ISN), UiTM Sarawak and Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tun Abdul Razak (IPGKTAR).

According to Dr Ong, the event is aimed to provide a relevant stage to develop the knowledge of sports coordinators, team managers, coaches, sports enthusiasts, physical education teachers, and lecturers from universities and teacher training institutes in sharing of resources and expertise among the participants.

“This event will also be a great boost to the realising of the state’s KRA 6 vision and mission of making Sarawak as a sports powerhouse in the country,” he said on efforts to further boost sports development in Sarawak.

In that respect, the quality of sports management, sports science and physical education must also be enhanced so that an individual’s potential can be realised for the nation’s future.

Those expected to be present at the coming event are Allan Black and Timothy O’Brien from ISN, National Coaching Academy (AKK), Morten Frost Hansen the technical director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and Dato Ramlan Abdul Aziz of Anti-Doping Agency of Malaysia (ADAMAS).

There will also be a number of sports science experts from University Malaya (UM), University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and University Sains Malaysia (USM) who are presenting their papers and talks during the event.

The fees for the symposium and seminar are RM220 per person, with an early bird promotion rate of RM200, if registration is made on or before Sept 10.

Foreign participants will be charged US$200 per person and there will also be a promotion fee of RM100 especially for university and college students who are interested in attending if they register before Sept 10.

Registration forms are available at MSN Sarawak and ISN offices at Sarawak Stadium and State Indoor Stadium in Petra Jaya as well as at UiTM Sarawak and IPGKTAR in Kota Samarahan.
