KUCHING: The Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will be organising an educational tour to explore business and trade opportunities in Cambodia from Oct 10 to 15.

DCCI deputy president Kilat Beriak said the six-day trip will include visits to Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh and Siem Reap city to be led by DCCI president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.

“In Phnom Penh, the DCCI delegation will pay courtesy calls on the Malaysian Embassy and government agencies as well as to relevant authorities and Cambodia’s Chamber of Commerce and (various) associations to discuss prospects for business matchmaking and networking.

“Apart from that, the delegates will also have the opportunity to learn and understand more about the tourism, agriculture and services industries there, all of which play significant roles in contributing to Cambodia’s steady economic development,” he said in a statement yesterday.

On the other hand, the delegates’ visit to Siem Reap will include visits to the world-renowned Temples of Angkor Wat and Angkor Tom, the Killing Field Cheoung Ek, and Tonle Sap Lake to view the unique wooden and stone carvings featuring traditional and classical Cambodian artistry.

“Delegates who are visiting Cambodia for the first time will no doubt find this tour to be interesting and informative,” said Kilat, who is also DCCI Services Committee and Business Development and Overseas Tour Committee chairman.

This will be the fifth overseas educational business trip organised by DCCI. Previously, a similar tour was held in Vietnam, Burma, Taiwan and Thailand.

A number of DCCI officials, professionals and businessmen have expressed their interest to participate in the tour and among them are Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira who is also DCCI vice-president, DCCI secretary general Libat Langub, treasurer Allan Keripin and supreme council members Datuk Winsel Athos, Marilyn Gani, Helbert Ubong, Dr Joseph Jawa and Joseph Jinggut.

Those who are keen to participate in the trip are to register with the DCCI Secretariat by calling 082-425821 or 082-424602.
