Alleged illegal lottery agent nabbed at airport taxi parking area

KUCHING: A suspected illegal lottery agent was arrested by police during a raid at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) taxi parking space on Sunday.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the 55-year-old man from Bandar Baru Samariang was nabbed by a CID personnel from the district headquarters following a tip-off.

“Mobile phones, betting slips, stationeries and cash amounting to RM101 were seized during the operation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The suspect has been detained to facilitate investigation under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

In an unrelated case, a cyber gambling den located on the first floor above an entertainment outlet along Jalan Petanak was raided by police on Sunday, resulting in the arrest of two Indonesian females.

According to Abang Ahmad, one of the two arrested was the premises’ caretaker who did not have valid travelling documents, while the other was a gambler at the premises.

Items seized during the raid included a television, digital video recorder, routers, three tablet devices and four smart phones.

The case will be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1953, Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, and Section 5(1) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000.
