Indonesia in shortage of 1.1 million pouches blood

BANJARMASIN, S Kalimantan: Head of Teens Red-Cross and Volunteers of the Indonesian Red-Cross (PMI) HM Muaz said that the country is in the condition of shortage of blood at least 1.1 million pouches for four million people who need blood, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“To fulfill the need it is important to make the donor number to increase voluntarily in Indonesia because many people need blood to struggle for their life,” he said in a hospitality meeting with PMI South Kalimantan in Tree Park Hotel Banjarmasin, Sunday night.

According to him, from the many parts of the world only seven countries, including Indonesia, who practicing donor system in fulfilling blood need. The others apply trading.

“But the International Red-Cross does not recommend the blood made in the manufacture in France for the reason it has not the same quality with a pure-blood transfusion in donor system,” he said.

Muaz then quoted the saying of Indonesia’s first President Ir Soekarno that “PMI is the real heart of Pancasila”.

The meeting was marked with a symbolic submission of appreciation to ten blood donor volunteers (DDS) in the province which covers 13 districts and cities.

PMI South Kalimantan Head H Gusti Iskandar Sukma Alamsyah said there are actually 135 DDS recorded in the province, but on this occasion only ten of them received awards.

Certificates of appreciation for the others will be submitted in the 72nd anniversary of PMI on September 17.
