KUCHING: A 51-year-old man was found dead inside a four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD) parked at Mile 21 of Kuching-Serian Road on Sunday.

It was a member of a public who made the grim discovery at around 8pm, after noting that the left signal light of the 4WD was on.

According to Padawan District deputy police chief DSP Merbin Lisa, the passer-by went to check further and saw a man lying motionless on the driver’s seat.

“After seeing that the man remained unresponsive, the passer-by immediately contacted the hospital for assistance,” he said.

It is learnt later that the man was a construction worker and the 4WD belonged to his employer.

The vehicle was facing towards the direction of Serian when it was found.

Paramedics, who arrived at the scene later, assessed that the man had been dead for more than three hours. The body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“The victim might have experienced chest pains and decided to park by the roadside and lowered his seat to rest.

“Initial investigation found no sign of foul play. Police have classified the case as sudden death, pending a post-mortem report,” said Merbin.

It is also learnt that the man was from Song, but was working here and temporarily staying with his children at Kampung Bako.

Meanwhile in a separate case, a 41-year-old man was found dead inside a security post of a water plant at Bukit Endau, Jalan Bako on Saturday.

Kuching police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said it was a co-worker who made the discovery.

“The co-worker tried to enter the security post, but the door was locked – forcing the co-worker to break the locks. There, he saw his friend lying on the bed inside.

“He immediately contacted the hospital,” said Abang Ahmad.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead on site. The body was later taken to SGH.

The city police chief said based on a post-mortem conducted on Sunday, the cause of death was a heart attack. Police found no sign of foul play.
